The Barnes Dance

January 31, 2009

Henry Barnes is that father of modern traffic control.  In the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, he was called on to solve traffic issues in Flint, Denver, Baltimore, and New York.  As part of Buckfifty.org’s tribute to Denver’s 150th birthday, I compiled some anecdotes about Barnes’ work in Denver.  It was in Denver, that the idea to stop traffic in all directions so pedetrians could cross was named the “Barnes Dance,” thanks to a local reporter.  Take a visit to Buckfifty.org to see this story and many other stories about Denver.
